How to source fabric for a new collection
Source fabric by defining the spec first (composition, weight, construction, finish), collecting swatches, testing performance, then confirming price, minimums and lead time before you lock the collection.
Define the spec
Write down composition, weight, weave or knit, finish, colour and performance needs for every style.
Swatch, test, confirm
Request swatches and a lab dip or strike-off for colour and print. Test shrinkage and colour fastness. Confirm minimums and lead time.
Put the final spec in the tech pack and BOM so the factory quotes exactly what you approved. MYTH PLM holds tech packs, BOM and materials, and ZUSHI matches factories that can make it.
FAQ
How early should I source fabric?
Before you finalise styles, because fabric lead time often sets the production calendar.
What is a lab dip?
A small dyed sample used to check colour against your reference before bulk dyeing.
